- This is Streamer. A very simple FREEWARE tape backup program. I
- use it with an Archive Viper 5150S tape attached to a MacIIsi
- running System 7. It's primitive but it does work. It should work
- with most tape devices - let me know if it doesn't work with
- yours.
-
- I wrote it because I picked up the tape drive from a dead unix
- box, and I didn't want to pay out 120 pounds for all the flashy
- features of Retrospect (that I don't need!). So don't expect too
- much.
-
- If there's much interest, I'll do some extra work and add a few
- more features and a flashier interface. But I warn you, the next
- version is likely to be shareware! This one is free but copyright.
-
- What is does now:
-
- Backs up the contents of a selected drive or folder.
- Lists the contents of a backup tape.
- Restores the contents of a tape to a drive or directory.
- (WARNING - this will overwrite existing files with the same name)
- Reads/Writes single files to tape (useful for UNIX TAR tapes).
-
- Ideas for the future:
-
- Direct UNIX TAR support.
- Selective restore (it presently restores everything).
- Incremental backup facilities.
- Better interface.
- Provide general tape interface/debugging support.
- System 7 toys (Balloon help + Apple events).
-
- Well, lets get some feedback (and any donations gratefully received!)

-
- Once again, this is FREEWARE. It's copyright Bill Sellers 1992, but
- can be freely copied and distributed electronically. Give a copy
- to your friends.
-
- It's free, so there's no warranty. If it doesn't work for you,
- well, tough! Remember, restore CAN and WILL overwrite files if
- they have the same names as the ones on the backup. The shouldn't
- normally be a problem. (Most backup programs do exactly the same
- thing!)
-
- Hope it helps someone out there.
